Relief and Climate

Sidama has a variety of climatic conditions. Warm climatic conditions cover 54% of the land. Locally know as Gamoojje or Woinadega, this is a temperate zone ranging from an elevation of 1500m to 2500m above sea level. The mean annual rainfall of the area varies between 1200mm to 1599 mm with 15^oc to 19.9^oc average annual temperature. 

Hot climatic zone, Kolla, covers 30% of the total area. This elevation ranges from 500m to 1500m above sea level with a mean annual rainfall of 400mm to 799mm. The mean annual temperature here ranges from 20^oc to 24.9^oc.

 Cool climatic condition exists in the mountainous highlands knows as Aliicho or Dega. This covers 16% of the the total area with an elevation between 2500m and 3500m above the sea level. This part gets the highest amount of rainfall ranging from 1600mm to 1999mm. It has the mean annual temperature of 15^oc to 19.9^oc.
